WILLOW

Willow is a lively 5 year old girl with an extremely sweet disposition. At 50 lbs, she is housebroken, heartworm negative, and scheduled for a spay on 6/10/ 2005. She gets along well with other dogs, and only gets a tad grumpy if bothered by one of them while enjoying her chewy bone.

Her favorite pastimes are prancing around the backyard with a toy in her mouth and searching thru all the nooks and crannies of her surroundings. Intelligently, and with the investigative spirit of Agatha Christie, she will boldly nudge open any slightly ajar door, kitchen cupboard, or lower cabinet with her big, pink nose to seek out the mysteries of  pots and pans, or locate her human companions' whereabouts. She is not a destructive pei, simply curious.

Willow is a happy girl who loves to shower her human friends with plenty of appreciative kisses. This is one shar pei who is not shy about expressing her love for everyone. She would love to be in a forever home and would make her owners feel truly loved.

UPDATE 8/1/05: Way to go, Willow! Willow went to her new home in Ponte Vedra FL on Saturday. So far, she and Jaws (Becky's other rescue pei) are doing well together. They are both so laid back, we can't imagine that there will be any problems whatsoever. I talked to Becky last night and she told me the cutest story. Becky's cat, Max, came up to Becky and sat on the floor next to her. Willow came over and started grooming him. Max laid down and rolled over on his side for more. Isn't that the sweetest thing? It is obvious from looking at Willow Bug that she has had several litters of puppies. Based on her care of Max, we're certain that she was a wonderful mom. Celia and Talia had fostered Willow for us and they miss her a lot, but they know that she is in a great home.

9/19/05: Update on Willow and Jaws - Willow loves, I mean absolutely loves going out.  She's like the energizer bunny and never stops once outside.  She has caught tree frogs, lizards, and even a garden snake (which she didn't eat, thank goodness!).  She thinks when the lizards scurry out of sight that they have gone underground, so she has dug holes all over the yard!  She doesn't try to dig under the fence, just wants to find lizards!  I'm trying to stop the digging, but fear it's a no-winner!  She and Jaws are fine.  Basically, she runs around and he stays on the patio like a big slug!  In the house when I'm gone, Willow is on the bed and Jaws on the floor beside it.  I made a ramp for her to get up on and she uses it faithfully.  Wish I could find some steps, but the only ones I've seen so far are only 16" high and just won't work.  So, we're sticking to the ramp for now. She and Jaws eat out of the same bowl, at different times, of course!  The cats have never hissed at her or swiped at her.  Seems they know she's just a kooky, little girl and approve of her being in the family. Most nights before I turn out the light, I get in bed to read and here come Mindy and Max-a-Million (Willow is already on the bed), so Jaws gets up, too, and we have "family time."  Willow has her spot on the bed and doesn't cuddle much, but as soon as the light goes off, Jaws is down on the floor, the cats find their places, and it's just me and Willow left on the bed! I'm loving her more and more (sans the digging!) and I think Jaws and the kitties are fine with her, too!  She's a little mess and has managed to keep my floors dirty at all times!  We've started "toweling off" before she comes back inside and that's helped some, but then she sits and pants a puddle and mud gets tracked everywhere!  Oh, well, the price is low for the love she brings!  Carlyn and I have decided that she looks like a little Chinaman.  When she's got her mouth open, it's like she's smiling! The vet loves her.  All's up to date, and I even cut her toenails in the bath!  Am going to try to get some pictures and will send to you.

3/28/07: Cindy, update on Willow.  Skin is doing great.  Her anal glands had become impacted and we tried medication to loosen, but it didn't work.  Last week (only 5 days after I had shoulder replacement surgery!), I was at the vet with her and he put her under and flushed the glands.  Said the stuff was like a thick, thick spaghetti and it took 3-4 flushes to get it all.  Yuk!  Anyway, we are now feeding (and have been for some time) Eukanuba Response FP.  It has done wonders!  The vet put Willow on it, so naturally Jaws gets it, too, some time ago for allergies and skin sensitivity.  She no longer takes any antihistamine!!  I'm awfully glad they were on this food when all this horrible stuff started happening with the poisoned dog food!

Anyway, we go back in a couple of weeks so the doc can check the glands to make sure they aren't filling up again, but looks like for the first time ever, Willow is in full good health!  She's so happy and loves to play!  Jaws has really taken to her and is constantly standing over her licking her ears and head!  She endures it for quite a while, then gets up and walks away only to have him find her and start again!  Who'd have thunk it! Becky

6/29/09: Jaws and Willow become more special to me each day. Willow has arthritis pretty bad, but the vet here has really helped her. Jaws seems to be made of iron - no problems and has come such a long way since I picked him up at the shelter in Johnson City. Willow is still so funny. She makes me laugh every day! Jaws love to lay beside her and lick her ear! She puts up with it most of the time, but occasionally lets him know enough's enough! Becky
