4/9/08: Meet Sammie! What a personality. He loves everybody, but especially the male species. Sammie is settling in to the routine here very nicely. He's loves to run around and smell every blade of grass. Sammie is good with female dogs, but isn't too fond of other male dogs. Hopefully that will change once he's neutered. Sammie has a yeast infection on his skin and ears, but we're treating it and he's getting better.
4/22/08: This sweet boy is on his way to his new home in East TN. Sammie is the first of the Unicoi County guys to be adopted. Yea!! Thank you, Robert Sr. and Robert Jr., for taking this boy into your home. I know he's going to finally have a safe, loving home which he desperately deserves. He'll never have to live outside again!
4/23/08: Hi,Sammie made it home just fine, he loves to ride in
the car. At first he paced a little in the back seat and
kept looking out of the back window. However, by the time
we got to Cleveland,TN he was putting his front feet on the middle
console, looking out of the front window, and licking our faces
with a few grunts in for good measure. He pottied everytime
we stopped and even nudged us-tail wagging- when he had to potty,
prompting us to stop.
He was however not as confident out of the car. The other
cars frightened him and it was all a bit overwhelming, but as
soon as he was back in the car he was fine.
When we got home he was a little anxious. We walked him
around the property and then let him hang out on our fenced deck,
but he seemed like he wanted out. I left him with my dad
and went to get the dog food and the yogurt. While I was
gone, dad introduced him to sliced cheese and bacon snacks.
He was a lot more comfortable after he had his dinner and medicine
,and then he was walked for an hour by me, dad, and my two oldest
children. He decided at that time that he wanted to check
out the house and has been absolutely wonderful. He has
been exploring, tail up since then-periodically introducing himself
to all of us including my youngest Claire. He hasn't been
affecionate like he is with you but tail-up, curious, comfortable,
and typically stand-offish except for his periodic nudges is really
really great.
I think his adjustment is going to be quick, as he realizes that
he is safe and cared for. He will be busy walking tomorrow
AM and getting acqainted with the people and dogs that frequent
the trail around Freedom Hall. I am taking the lead and
being pack leader so he knows he has no reason to be anxious...so
far its working and he is very comfortable with me taking the
lead.
Will update you again soon, and thank you again for all your incredible
work-We were very glad to finally meet you guys. Bedtime
for Sammie, will e-mail agin soon with another update. Robert

I like my new deck!
12/5/08: Thanks, Robert, for sending
these new pictures of Sammie and your dad. It's easy to see the
love he has for Sammie.
6/21/09: Hi Cindy
I just wanted to give you and update on Sammie.
He is doing great and has completely gotten over the ordeal he
had when he got away from us. Of course the physical damage had
long since healed but it took him a bit to get over it psychologically.
He has developed some skin issues with with hot weather. I was
worried that it was demodectic mange, but after 400$ at the vet
we have discovered that it is just yeast, though bad it is very
treatable. Even though we have used the dog food you have sugested,
I have decided to use all natural dog food, completely elimenating
any soy, glutten, or yeast. I will give you an update on his condition.
He has come so far, and even seems to enjoy the endless parade
of children that comes through the house (shar pei translation,
no longer ignores them completely and even allows a pet and returns
a lick now and then).
Well that's it for now.
Robert Perry
Doesn't he look great!
He only gets more handsome! 1/2/2011
