QUINCY

Quincy was turned loose by his owner and when he was picked up by Animal Control, the owner was contacted and he didn't want Quincy back. And he's such a sweet boy, too.

Quincy is neutered, on heartworm prevention, current on vaccinations and is microchippped. He is good with other dogs and likes kids. Quincy is three years old.

Quincy is very, very thin but that's probably because he was left to fend for himself for so long. That problem will be fixed quickly - he'll get plenty to eat here. The little wound on his head probably happened at the shelter, but it is healing nicely.

Quincy is looking for a new family to love. If you think yours is the one, please contact us.

UPDATE 10/11/04: Finally, the perfect family came along for Quincy!  We are so happy that Butch and Janell found room in their hearts and their home for Quincy. They left Tennessee headed for Pennsylvania with Quincy and their other pei, Mei Lei, lounging on their beds ready for the long ride home. Thank you, Janell and Butch. We know you will give Quincy a safe, loving home. Keep warm, Q!

11/3/08: Quincy is so good! Such a love. At the moment, he's shedding like nothing I've ever seen! He sheds a lot year round, but fall & spring are awful. Enough every day to make an entirely new dog. The groomer should charge us double! Thankfully we're out of thunderstorm & fireworks "season", so he'll be much happier. He is ecstatic about the Phillies though! We suck at taking pictures. Went on vacation last week and took 4, which we still haven't uploaded. I'll work on it! Hope all is well with your gang. Janell

3/7/2010: Cindy, So heartbroken, writing you this Quincy update. Our baby Q-man had to be put to sleep last night. He had been acting a little funny over the past week or so - getting up on the bed or window ledge, and then not wanting to get off. Walking outside and then suddenly sitting down and refusing to move. I was fairly convinced it was his hips, but he kept bouncing right back - one day fine, one bad. And I couldn't find any pain spots in his legs or hips when I searched him.  He was also eating fine until yesterday.

Yesterday morning we found out that Butch's brother-in-law had unexpectedly died in his sleep. He was only 48, active air force reserve, and father to our 2 beautiful neices. I knew I had to head to NJ to be with them, so I took Q & Mei Lei out for a quick walk - but Quincy sat down in the parking lot and refused to move. I had to leave him to get Mei Lei back in the house - and he stayed still. I managed to pick him up and carry him into the house, and called Butch to tell him what had happened. We talked the vet into letting me drop him off for an exam and boarding him in case we didn't make it home from NJ before they closed.

The vet called us with updates all day - 1st, that his blood tests had come back  - and Q was extremely anemic. This meant he was bleeding internally somewhere - so they wanted to do a chest x-ray and abdominal ultrasound. The last call was the bad one. They had found tumors in his spleen, a mass in his chest, and fluid everywhere. They told us he may have hours, days, or maybe weeks - but that he would deteriorate rapidly. Chemo and surgery could buy us maybe 6 months.

We decided to head home, and meet the vet on call after hours. We got there and saw Quincy - listened to the vet explain the odds, and give his recomendation. Then the hard part - Q was over the current bad spell, and happy as a clam to see us. We walked him around the grounds, took pictures, gave him his favorite ice cream treat we had brought from home. It was so easy in that moment to think they had made a mistake - and he was fine! But we knew that wasn't true. We went inside and held him as the doctor gave him the injection through the catheter. We stayed with him awhile, saying our goodbyes, and eventually went home to the house now so empty - and a very confused Mei Lei.

We're holding on to the knowledge that Quincy is now hanging out with Rick - gettng all the ridiculously unhealthy treats we wouldn't normally let him have!

I've attached some recent pictures of our boy: Q on Christmas morning, enjoying his present, a bunch from the recent blizzard - showing our Quincy prancing along in snow almost over his head, and sitting in on of his favorite spots - the window ledge in front of the house. Please send some prayers our way - our family needs them so much right now. Thank you for giving us our furball with the beautiful soul.  We'll miss him always. Love, Janell & Butch

Rest in peace, sweet Quincy.
