Mama

9/15/2010: This beautiful girl is as sweet as they come. Her name is Mama and she's a chocolate brushcoat. She only has three legs due to a birth defect, but that certainly doesn't inhibit her in any way. Mama came to us from a puppy mill shut down in July. She is between 2-3 years old, is current on vaccinations and will be spayed, have her eyes fixed and will be microchipped on September 30.

From Mama's foster mom: "They say, “You can't judge a book by it's cover”. Don't judge Mama by what appears to be a disability. Yes, Mama only has 3 legs, but don't feel sorry for her. She was born that way and doesn't know anything different. Mama is an active dog. She runs, plays and wrestles with the other dogs and is quite capable of holding her own.

Mama is a strong, intelligent girl with a quiet and gentle nature. She is a little shy at first, but it won't be long before she becomes your shadow. Mama is a snugly dog. She likes being next to people – sitting on the couch or laying at your feet. She prefers to be inside – a “homebody”. She is very tolerant. She has allowed me to put ointment in her eyes and clean her ears without a fuss (the cookie afterward was always a plus!).

Mama gets along well with other dogs and my 2 cats. She walks well on a leash, has learned “sit” and is working on “down”. She has not been crate trained.

Does Mama have “special needs”? Just those of every other dog – to be respected and nurtured in a loving environment." Janet

10/11/2010: Well, it didn't take long for Mama's foster mom to realize that she just couldn't part with her. Dave, the foster dad, had secretly told me that he had overheard Janet saying to Mama that it was going to be very hard to let her go. He decided to surprise Janet with the best Christmas present ever. Then Janet told me on Saturday that she was beginning to squirrel away money for Mama's adoption fee, so I had to let Dave know what she was thinking. Dave said this morning that was the shortest time he had ever kept a secret! Janet is thrilled, needless to say. Christmas in October is indeed wonderful!! Congratulations, Mama, you have a great home with two people who love you very, very much. You'll never be neglected again.
