Katie Gautier has a very special story. She is the victim of Hurricane Katrina. Her family lost their home and had no place to live and they certainly didn't have any place for Katie to live. Katie is named Gautier because that's the name of the town in MS that she came from. Since getting Katie into our program, we have received several messages from the decendants of the man who founded Gautier MS. This is truly a special story and a special dog. Katie is a 4 year old beautiful red brushcoat. She is very laid back and easy going. She gets along with other dogs and loves kids. She is a big girl, about 57 lbs. Unfortunately Katie has heartworms and needs entropion surgery and, of course, spaying. We will begin her heartworm treatment very soon. Katie will not be available for adoption until mid to late January 2006. UPDATE 12/2/05 We started Katie's heartworm treatment today, so she's not feeling too well. This treatment will take a minimum of 6 weeks and then Katie will be spayed and have her eyes fixed. UPDATE 12/27/05 Katie is feeling much better. She has done very well with her HW treatment. She gets the second round on Friday, then in two weeks, we'll do a test to see if she's HW negative. Then she'll be spayed and have entropion surgery. UPDATE 1/23/06 Katie is heartworm free, has been spayed and has had her eyes fixed, so she's ready for that new home. Katie is a wonderful girl - so gentle and sweet. She will make the right family very, very happy.
2/12/06: What a great home for Katie Bug. Both Johnny's and Teresa's families were affected by the hurricane, so they were really drawn to Katie. She's going to have a wonderful life with her new family.
