Look at this beautiful puppy! Destiny is almost 8 weeks old. She came into rescue with her sister, China. Both have skin issues, probably due to bad nutrition, but both are being treated and improving rapidly.

Destiny will be available for adoption after she is spayed somewhere around Thanksgiving.

UPDATE 11/19/05: Ruby, who used to be Destiny, and her sister, Rosa, went to their new home today. My goodness, Pattie, and her son, Max, were so excited to meet them. These girls are in a great place.

UPDATE 11/21/05: We are all getting along so beautifully!  Izzy is in love.  She can't wait to play with them.  After awhile though, she look at me and want to escape.  Rosa is especially fond of Izzy - wants to stay right with her at all times.  Rosa has much more stamina in the play department.  Ruby plays very well also, but she likes to go an explore on her own a little more than Rosa.  Both girls nap and sleep at night very well.  I didn't hear a peep from them the first night.  Not really sure if it was because they slept well or I was totally exhausted. It's great to have this week off though.  Gives us so much time together.  Ruby was so cute this morning when I let them out first thing.  We had a good frost last night and the grass was covered.  She went charging off the deck as usual and the minute her little (big) feet hit the frost she ran right back to me and hid between my legs!!  The grass crunched under her feet and I think the feel of it and the sound scared her.  Eventually she went back on the grass, but it was so cute.  Rosa wasn't the least bit bothered by it.  The first snow should be lots of fun! Pattie

UPDATE 11/23/05: Help!!!!  The girls won't come in from out in the snow !! I thought they might be a little afraid - but they love it.  Ruby especially - She runs across the deck with her nose down like a plow and scoops up some snow and eats it.  Then throws some in the air and barks at it.  She is so goofy!!  Rosa just runs and runs and runs and runs .  They love to chase one another or Izzy around the tree in the yard.  Ruby gets all hunkered down when she runs.  They are doing just great.  Max has kind of attached himself to Rosa and she to him.  Ruby and I are wonderful pals.  She likes to sleep on him chest as I lay on the couch.  Rosa and Izzy would play all day if I'd let them  (which I frequently do!)  - I get tired before they do.  Izzy is so good with them.  She even more gently than I hoped she would be.  I still get a little scared when all three mouths are open - but they are doing very well.  The play growling and barking is coming from the girls not Izzy.  She lays on her back as they bark at her head and jump all over her.  When she's had enough, she gets up and walks away.  I don't leave them unsupervised to play - just in case someone gets a little too rough.  They are eating well, but Rosa likes to hog the food in the bowl.  I give them separate bowls, but Rosa always wants the one that Ruby has.  We'll have to work on not eating off others plates!!  Our table manners leave a bit to be desired. Pattie

UPDATE 2/1/06: Sometimes I just don't use what little is left of my brain.  I had to take Max to a meeting so I thought it would be a great idea to take the little girls along.  Maybe help to get Rosa over the car sickness by taking her on little trips.  About half way there, I realized that I had just finished feeding the girls!  I kept my fingers crossed.  The trip there was fine and we were nearly home when the lovely familiar upchucking sound came from the back seat.  I pulled in and started to get the girls out.  Much to my amazement, she hadn't gotten sick!!!!!  Thank goodness.  Boy am I ever lucky.  I really didn't feel like cleaning out the car.  Next time I'll try to remember to not take her right after eating. Ruby is fine in the car.  Izzy only gets sick in the car if she has recently consumed a sock or a nice pair of dirty underwear!  But I guess that would tend to make anyone feel carsick!!! They did it to Max again last night.  I went in to check on "all of my children" and therre were 3 dogs on the bed and one boy sleeping under the bed on the big dog pillow.  Talk about your dogs life!!!!  They have it made.  Pattie

UPDATE 3/20/06: The baby girls are doing great.  Still full of lots of energy - they give Izzy a workout daily.  We continue to be very happy with the girls (I think they're happy with us too.)   That Rosa is a problem though (for Izzy that is!).  Izzy will be chewing on something and Rosa comes up to give her kisses all over her face.  If Izzy isn't real careful, Rosa will very quickly grab whatever Izzy has and run away.  Izzy is always dumbstruck.  She gets fooled every time.  Rosa may need counseling for being a pick pocket!!  So far, Ruby hasn't exhibited any of these criminal tendencies!!!  Keep your fingers crossed.

UPDATE 7/31/06: Sorry it's been so long since I've written - the summer is nearly over - not sure where it went.  I'm just getting ready for it to start and it's over.

We've been having a real hot spell here.  The girls love to go out so often, but they get so hot.  Thank goodness for the AC.  Max has been taking great care of the girls while I'm at work.  He's so good about not leaving them out, making sure they have water and playing too rough inside the house.  The playing rough is something we're working on   For some reason they all prefer to play inside rather than out - chasing balls inside is better than chasing them outsie.  I don't understand - but what do I know, I'm just the mom!!

The girls are doing great.  As near as I can figure, they should be about 1 year old sometime in August.  They are so happy - we are too.  Great eaters too!!  They start to bug me for dinner at about 2 pm every day that I'm home at that time.  I used to think that they were really happy to see me when I'm get home from work - what a fool I am - they just want to be fed!!

Ruby is really more of a Shar Pei - loves to go to bed at night, much more laid back, not so hyper, doesn't chew on things as much.  Rosa is more lab than Shar Pei - very active,  bouncy - very bouncy, loves to chew, very hyper and constantly needs affection.  Now keep in mind that she does get lots of affection, but somehow that never is enough - so typical of labs.  Ruby is content just to be near us.  She loves affection too but not like Rosa.  Our other dog, Izzy is such a good mother to the girls.  They still adore her and she still takes care of them.

The girls are less afraid of the vacuum cleaner. But that trombone is their new worst enemy!  Max can't even tell what song he's trying to play due to their barking.   Maybe if Max practices more, the girls won't be so offended by the sound.  But then again, maybe they'll never like that big mean, nasty brass thing!!

Just wanted you to know how great the girls are doing and how happy we still are with our "little girls".  We still refer to them as "the puppies" and we probably always will.  They seem so small (around 40 lbs.) in comparison to Izzy (85lbs.)   I've attached a couple of pictures - not great ones - they won't sit still and pose!

Hope you summer is going well and that all your crew is doing well also.

Take Care

Patti Dickmann
