Rebel

6/14/09: This big guy is named Rebel. Rebel was found as a stray and in pretty bad shape. Thanks to some very good samaritans, he is now is rescue where we will get him healthy and feeling much better than he does now. As you can see, he has some significant skin issues and he needs entropion surgery on his eyes. Rebel has freckles on his nose!

Rebel is being fostered in Decatur GA with Celia and Talia and they are already working on making him feel better. He had a nice bath today and as you can see from the picture below, it made him feel really good. He also needs to lose a pound or two, so they'll work on that, too.

Rebel is already neutered and will be checked for heartworm disease soon. He'll also have his eyes fixed and will get his vaccinations. Rebel is crate trained and house trained. He loves to ride in the car. He gets along with other dogs, but gives chase to cats. He loves everybody he meets.

6/24/09: Rebel is doing so well. He is responding to the good diet and much needed medicated baths. See how much better he looks in the pictures below. Celia is working to help him lose a few pounds. Then he'll really feel better. Rebel is heartworm negative and will have his eyes fixed on July 9. Then he'll be ready for his new home!

Rebel with his sleeping buddies, Fiona and Cyril. Heck, it's too hot to do anything else!

8/2/09: from Rebel's foster mom: Hi Cindy,
It is time for an update on Rebel. I will never be able to say enough about him, he is a hoot! He is so sweet, so tender and so loving. He is a dog that enjoys being next to people. He is a couch potato, but only because he wants to be where you are. He is not a kisser, but does like receiving them. When I leave him to go to bed, and he realizes it, you can hear those toes dancing down the hall and then the soft jump on the bed. He sleeps so deep, but somehow in the night he manages to find my shoulder to put his head on.
Rebel wants to go out on his terms, sometimes he has to be prodded to use the bathroom, I guess I should say, he needs a gentle nudge out of the back door. However, if he jumps up and starts pacing, he needs to go out. He is funny when it comes to #2, he runs around and around the yard for just the right place and time. I laugh because I can picture him reading a newspaper while getting it just right. It is a very serious meditation time for him. When he is done, have the door open because he runs like the wind to get back in the house! He does like being lazy with the other dogs and just lays out in the sun.
Rebel does not care for a bath, but does tolerate one. He is an awesome dog. His bark, it is more like an err err err, sound. When you hear it, you know someone is around or an animal has come into his vision. This makes him a great watch dog. He loves to ride in the car, go on walks, and even a vet visit is all right with him. The vet tech said he and Fiona were 2 of the friendliest Shar-Pei they had ever met.
Rebel eats twice a day, but to him it is never enough. He does not beg, but sits and hopes something will fall from your plate.
Rebel is a love bug, he gets along with all of the dogs here, and loves to play. However, I think he would be happy with just his person and no other dogs,or a house full of dogs.
So, if someone wants a bed bug and a couch potato to keep them company, to love on, and to walk with, Rebel is THE MAN!
However, as always, I am never in a hurry to see any of our foster dogs leave.
P.S. During his weight lose program ha ha , we call him Fat Back or Fatty Cakes. I sing a little David Bowie tune to him...Rebel, Rebel...

"Where exactly are we going?" I took this picture in the car after I picked Rebel up from Celia this morning. Celia fostered Rebel for us.
"OK, I'm in this for the long haul."

"Just let me know when we're there."

9/6/09: This gentleman is on his way to his new home in Clarksville TN with his new family. It was love at first sight for Karen and for Rebel. He went running up to her when she got out of the truck, tail wagging 90 miles a minute. Rebel will be very happy in his new home, I'm sure.

Rebel in his new home.

Rebel and his new sister, Diamond. Sweet!

9/15/09:Rebel is doing great. I think he has one really bad hang up though. It's called banana nut muffins, we baked some and I got 2 and went to sit down on the couch and he went ape over them. Started running around the house and I could not figure out why and then he went behind the couch and tried to steal one and thats when I figuard out he was going crazy over my muffins. It was really funny. Karen
