Penny

10/18/08: Penny came to us today after being at the Atlanta Humane Society since July. We tried to get her out a couple months ago, but ran in a stone wall. When the Humane Society called us last week, it was because Penny had become very stressed by being there and was having medical problems. It took us a few days to get her out because we are well over capacity, but we have recruited a new foster home for her.

Penny (named so because of her copper color) is a delightful little girl in spite of her past. She came originally from a puppy mill seizure in TN where she had been bred more than once. In fact, when the seizure happened, she had a litter of puppies. The puppies were placed for adoption by the Humane Society, but poor Penny didn't get placed. In fact, for most of the time she was there, she wasn't even listed on their website. Their policy is not to list dogs if they are being treated for any sort of medical problem.

Penny is a very thin, but beautiful, apricot dilute brushcoat. She is 2.5 years old and weighs only 33.5 lbs. She is a good eater, and is slowly getting to her optimal weight. She's a very loving little girl and is so happy to be able to run around in the yard and poop whenever she wants to! She learned how to use the pet door after showing her one time - she's very smart!

Penny is spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preventive. She is house trained.

Penny has a great time playing with other dogs.

4/11/09: Penny has turned into a beautiful girl. She's finally gained some weight and her coat is gorgeous. Penny unfortunately has had a little spat with Katie, the female in her foster home, so she's back with us. We think this happened because she was jealous of Katie's affection from Kitty, the foster mom. She loves people and is gets very attached very quickly. She's doing great here so far, especially with Elvis. She loves to play. We've only had one altercation and that was with Anna. It happened outside so we're not certain who started it, but Anna is almost always the aggressor so we're fairly certain it was her doing.

5/19/09: Penny is such an affection little girl and so well behaved in the house. She loves nylabones, but doesn't chew on anything she shouldn't. Penny will eat in her crate and stay for a little while without barking; but we're sure that it brings back the bad memories of the puppy mill situation she came from, so we don't crate her except at meal time.

We've had Penny for a long time. She needs her own home. Can you provide that for her?

8/23/09: It's a great day at Shar Pei Rescue of TN. Miss Penny has her very own home and what a special home it is. This family drove all the way from Michigan to meet Penny and I believe it was love at first sight. The only question was whether Penny would like Allie, their little Cockapoo. Well, guess what? Penny was very nice to little Allie. Allie was a little bit afraid, but after all she had ridden for hours and was on somebody's else turf. We think she'll be fine once she's back on familiar territory. Renita has two weeks off work and Brian has a week off and the kids don't go back to school until after Labor Day, so this family will have a lot of bonding time. They'll take it easy with Penny, making her feel right at home. She jumped right in the car and was ready to go. This one was really hard to let go, but I know she'll be happy in her new home and get all the love and attention she deserves.

Okay, let's go! I'm ready.

8/25/09: Hi Cindy, Things are going pretty well with Penny and the family. We decided to return home Sunday after leaving your house (what a long ride). Penny’s 10 hour journey with five strangers was quite amazing watching her relax hour by hour minute by minute as she was able to rest her eyes long enough to lay down and stay asleep. We learned that she is a co-driver like you said she loves to look out the window but I didn’t expect to see Penny enjoying the oncoming view watching where she was going (between the front & back seats). As we all arrived home very tired and just ready to jump in bed, I was thinking to myself that here goes another night with out sleep because everyone went to bed before me. I just laid a blanket that she sat on in the truck down on the floor next to my bed, and she just laid down and went to sleep until 6:45am that was truly great, I got sleep.

Well, as you said, Allie is on her own turf and to think we were so concern about Penny liking Allie. Well, the shyness has worn off. Allie is holding her own ground with Penny - mouthing at her to keep her in line that this is my house this is my family!

Thanks again for being so kind and willing to work with me from a long distance.

Love, The Banks family
