Griffin

11/5/08: Isn't he handsome? His name is Griffin. He's a cream horsecoat, around 2-3 years old. We don't know much about him yet except that he's a quiet boy and a little skittish at first. He's warming up to his foster mom real quickly, though.

Griffin is neutered, on heartworm preventive and vaccinated. We will post more in a couple days when we know more about his personality.

  What a regal boy!

11/7/08: From Griffin's foster mom: He is truly one of the old horsecoats.  Way too smart. These brushcoats are really dumb next to these old horsecoats.  He is not going to be good with cats.  Yesterday, he was fine.  This morning he is hunting them.  He will definitely go after them if they run.

He loves treats, loves food.  He now knows after part of one day that when we go on walks, he gets treats.  He will go pee and come and stand in front of me for his treat.  He is also barking, not because he wants to go, but because if we go, he gets treats.

Seems like he wants to come in the house.  He can act afraid, but I'm not sure he is as afraid as he acts.  He can put on a pretty good acting job to get what he wants.  LOL. Vicki

11/7/08: Griffin is doing great. We let him out in the back yard, he does his business and goes back and stands in front of the kennel building. He will come up to us when we sit on the steps with him, and comes to me when I stand in front of his kennel run when Amos is out. He refuses to fence fight, but didn't want to play with PT in spite of her best efforts to make friends. He just mostly wants to eat. LOL Vicki

12/31/08: Sweet Grif, who is already house trained, no problem in a crate - It's been very interesting to see him slowly come out of his shell. He does sit and shake and loves to run around the yard at full speed. I took him walking and he's great on a lead, will just smell the other neighborhood dogs and didn't seem to be bothered by them at all. He sniffed one of our cats and then ignored her but once she ran back into the garage, he became much more interested in chasing her. Grif loves to be out walking and he's wonderful on a lead. Lois

1/1/09: This boy is really handsome and so, so smart.

2/22/09: Griff is doing really, really well. He and Amos have adjusted to the crate situation. We take turns being in and out and they seem to be ok with it. He is so obedient!!!!! Griff is wonderful with the doxie girls. He will get down on his front paws with Belle (who was so afraid of him) and asks her to play. She's always ready to run and run with him. He's being pretty careful because of their size and puts up with all of them "attacking" him. He gets on his back with those long legs in the air and plays with them. It's something to see.

He and the parrot have sort of become friends. He goes over to the cage when Marco is down towards the bottom and sniffs and looks. They touched nose to beak and they seem to be fine, with Marco backing up just a little. Griff has also made himself right at home. He loves to sleep on our chair-and-a half. He's come a very long way in the time we've had him. It took longer than we thought it would be he's quite a guy. Lois

Griffin needs his forever home. He's done everything asked of him to learn how to live with a family, something he never had before coming into rescue.

5/2/09: Hi Cindy!

Grif is doing great. We had the stitches removed on Thursday and his eye looks really good. The Vet did a great job. We have him on a diet and, hopefully, he'll begin losing a bit of weight. He's pretty slick in getting to the food bowl in the kitchen before we can get there. Then there are times when he starts to the bowl, turns around to look at me, as if to say "I know I'm not supposed to eat this", so please take this up. He's definitely a chow hounds.

All in all, he's terrific and such a nice boy.

My sister and her husband have been here for a few days and it's taken him a little while to warm up to Dick and a shorter time to warm up to Joanne. When I take him to the Vet, he's still pretty unsure when he encounters a man. He likes the Vet and took to him pretty quickly.

You'll see him at your picnic and you'll love him. We're not sure how he will be with all of the people and dogs there, but it should be interesting. Lois

5/15/09: I got a surprise telephone call yesterday morning! Grif's foster moms have decided that Grif really belongs with them permanently. We are thrilled with this news. Griffin has been with Lois and Vicki since November, so we all feel this is the best place for him. Thanks, Vicki and Lois, for taking such good care of this guy and finally for adopting him. We'll get a picture at the picnic in a couple weeks. Cindy

5/30/09: This is a good picture of Vicki and Lois, but not the best side of Grif. We'll get another one soon, I hope.
