Daisy

5/6/09: Have you ever seen a more beautiful girl? Daisy was picked up as a stray in Alabama and landed herself at the shelter. That's probably a good thing, though, because now that she's in rescue, she'll get the care she needs. You see, Daisy has heartworm disease because her previous owners didn't give her the preventive every month. Once she's treated, we'll make sure that she never misses another month!

Daisy is a beautiful black horsecoat female. She was spayed yesterday and will begin her heartworm treatment soon. Daisy is great with other dogs and even cats. Daisy is house trained and walks great on a leash. She absolutely loves people. What a great girl! She will make some family very, very happy.

Because Daisy must have heartworm treatment, she won't be ready for adoption until mid to late June. She'll be worth the wait, though. We can promise you that!

Daisy is being fostered by our newest volunteers, Gina and Brandon. We are very grateful that they said they could keep her. They have a Pei named Ruby and two cats. Daisy was happy to meet them all.

5/15/09: Daisy is such a happy girl. She's pretty bossy when she first meets other dogs, but very soon she's ripping and romping with them. She does appear to be a little food aggressive with other dogs, but not at all with people. We are feeding her separately. It's not unusual for rescue dogs to be a little protective of their food, mainly because they've been hungry in the past and haven't forgotten that.

Daisy doesn't like to be scolded. When she is, she immediately stops the bad behavior, wanting to please very badly. She's a very smart girl and so very affectionate.

Take a look at this cute video of Daisy, Woody and Penny playing. It's hilarous. Click here.

5/26/09: Daisy had her first heartworm treatment injection today and she did really well. She'll have her second tomorrow.

6/8/09: Good news!! Daisy's foster parents have decided that they would like to adopt her. They have fallen in love with her and their Pei, Ruby, would be crushed if Daisy didn't continue as part of their family. Yea for Daisy!! And for Gina, Brandon and Ruby!!

6/12/09: Daisy is doing extremely well with the heartworm treatment. Gina and Brandon are taking such good care of her and doing everything that needs to be done to keep her quiet until she gets through the critical stage of the treatment. This is a great home for Miss Daisy!

6/24/2011: Today Sweet Daisy lost her battle with the ever recurring kidney failure. She was much too young and she leaves huge holes in the hearts of Brandon, Gina and Ruby. RIP, Daisy Dukes.
