Bridget & Striker

4/20/09: This cute little pup came to us today with her brother, Striker. She's an owner turn in due to financial difficulties - being laid off work. That's happening more and more these days. Bridget is a very active 4-month old black brushcoat. She has a very dark tongue, a beautiful coat and weighs 17 lbs. She is crated trained and house trained and does fairly well on a leash. She has her own ideas about where she wants to go so sometimes she has to be coaxed to going the way you want to go. She's very smart - she learned to use the pet door the first time she tried. She's very playful and she loves her brother. Bridget is current on her vaccinations and on heartworm preventive.

Bridget will be spayed in a couple weeks, then she'll be ready for her new home.

4/20/09: This cute little pup came to us today with his sister, Bridget. Striker was an owner turn in due to financial difficulties - being laid off work. That's happening more and more these days. Striker is a fairly laid back 4-month old black brushcoat. He currently weighs 15 lbs. He is crated trained and house trained and does well on a leash. He's very smart like his sister. He's playful but doesn't get into as much puppy trouble as his sister. Striker is current on his vaccinations and on heartworm preventive.

Striker had surgery for a rectal prolapse on 4/18/09 and is healing nicely. He will be neutered and have his cherry eye fixed in a couple weeks, then he'll be ready for his new home.

5/9/09: We knew these little guys wouldn't be with us long, but we had no idea we'd be able to adopt them together. Penny, Roscoe's mom, wrote that she wanted to adopt one of them, so today I took them both to visit. Well, Penny couldn't bear to have them separated, especially since Striker is so dependent on Bridget. We are so happy that they'll get to grow up together. Thanks, Penny, for making it happen!!

Striker and Roscoe Since Penny only lives about an hour away, she wanted to keep the two cuties until their surgeries in two weeks.

Now how could you separate these two??

5/16/09: They are doing really good. I've been home sick all week so I've been able to keep an eye on them. They bad weather doesn't faze them. They both prefer being outside. Bridget and Roscoe have become good friends and they play really rough. Striker just kind of sits back and watches but every once in a while he'll take a bite out of one of them. I see how he got his name, he looks all innocent then when it's least expected he strikes. I left the crate open last night and Striker came in and slept at the foot of my bed. Bridget stayed in the kennel. I was afraid that they might feel cramped in there. All in all they are very well behaved and have only chewed up a couple things. :) Penny

6/6/09: I'm keeping my son's little rat terrier this week while they're in California. The puppies think she's their own little squeaky toy. Poor Mya she just goes off on them and they just look at her so amused and just keep right on pestering her. Mya and Roscoe are buddies and that's funny because she's so little and he's so big. I'm hoping Mya will get the puppies under control. If she doesn't it's going to be a long week for her. Penny

6/16/09: Puppies are going strong. They are evil little things. I don’t know if it’s just because I see the puppies with so much energy but Roscoe seems to be slowing down. I worry about him sometimes. He’s happy just to lay at my feet and sleep

I take the puppies Monday for their last puppy shots and to get their heartworm medicine. You need to stop by sometime soon, you’ll be shocked at how big Striker is. He eats like a horse. He’ll clean up everyone’s bowl and keep looking for more. Bridget is going to be small. She’s not interested in eating so much. She fits her eating into getting into things. I thought Striker would be my favorite since he’s so much like Barney but I have to say Bridget is my little cuddle bug, Striker doesn’t care if you give him attention or not….he just wants food. Penny

6/22/09: I took the puppies for their first visit with my vet. He was very pleased with how healthy they both were. He is amazed at how much Striker looks and acts like Barney. He told Striker he has some big shoes to fill but he's sure he can do it.

Striker weights almost 30 lbs. He's so big. Bridget is only 21 lbs. In fact she really hasn't gained any weight since I got her. She's on the go constantly though. Roscoe and Striker are content just to watch her run around the yard. She's the sweet one. Striker is the indifferent one.

My vet thinks that Striker may have to have his eyes done down the road. They are border line. I'm hoping we won't have to have it done and if we do we can put it off for a couple of years. The little guy has been through enough in his short life. Penny

1/5/2010: The other day Nathan came over to the house while I was at work.  He went out to see the dogs and Stryker, being the timid little guy he is, hid under the shed.  Nathan loves Stryker, and he’s always trying to get him to come to him but unless I’m around, Stryker stays away.  Anyway, he decided to try and coax him out with a treat.  He brought out 3 treats for each dog.  Bridgett took one and went over to the shed and laid it down for Stryker and then came back and got hers. Way too cute.  She’s still just very protective of him.  It’s funny because he’s twice the size of her. Penny
