Skeeter

7/6/2011: Skeeter is another handsome fawn horsecoat. Horsecoats are my favorite so I'm really getting my fill over the last several months.

Skeeter came to us from a shelter in northern Georgia. He came with real trust issues, but he is really making progress in that area. Just in the last couple days, he will come up to me and ask to be petted. That's a real breakthrough for him.

Skeeter loves other dogs and is more comfortable with people when there are other dogs around. I think he follows their lead and if he sees that they're okay with people, then he warms up quicker. So, it is important that he be placed in a home that has other dogs. It is also important that the family that adopts him is willing to give him time to be comfortable with them and his new surroundings.

Because Skeeter has trust issues, he is likely to also be a runner. For this reason, his new family will need to be very careful opening doors that might allow him to escape. His new home must also have a secure fenced yard. He is so very sweet and doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body.

Skeeter will see the good doctor on Friday. Check back to find out what she said about him.

7/10/2011: Great check up on Friday. NO HEARTWORM DISEASE. Skeeter will be neutered and have his eyes fixed on 7/21/2011. He has really bonded to me over the last five days, but he's terrified of people he doesn't know. Gina tried to walk him this morning and he was so scared that he couldn't go. Here's the deal with him, though. Once he spends a few days with you, he will love you unconditionally. He sits next to me and loves having his face rubbed. He's such a sweet boy. He just needs someone with a litle patience. Because of his anxiety, he's borrowing Elvis' Thundershirt. He loves wearing it and it is helping him to not be so anxious.

Back to adopton pageWe require that a home visit by a volunteer be done prior to adoption. The purpose of the home visit is to ensure that the information given during the adoption process is correct and that the home is the right match for the dog being adopted. The home visit also gives adopters a chance to ask questions about the adoption process.

The adoption fee for Skeeter is $250, which helps to offset the cost of his medical care.
