3/21/2010: Her name is LiNa; .her story is a sad one; You see, LiNa belonged to an older lady who had had her since she was 5 weeks old. She will be 10 on July 19. Unfortunately, the owner died suddenly and there was no one to care of LiNa. She was kept in a garage from the time of her owner's death until she was taken to the shelter last week. Needless to say she was very confused about what was happening to her.
The person who contacted me was the owner's son and after working with him for about 10 days and finally being able to move some dogs around so I'd have room for her, he took her to the shelter. He told me he found her a home - that his prayers were answered. HA! Thank goodness the shelter lady put the word out about her. We got her on 3/12 and she was terrified. She bit my husband almost immediately. It took several days for her not to bark and lunge like crazy at us. She was scared to death. She was also almost emaciated, but she's eating now so she'll put on the weight she needs to real soon, I'm sure.
In the last few days, she has really come around. She likes me and never shows any aggression toward me. She still barks at Galon, but wagging her tail the whole time. Most of the time she's fine with the other dogs, but if one of them gets close to her space, she gets really upset. She acts like she's a big, bad girl, but she's not. She just needs some time to trust again.
We think LiNa would do best in a home that doesn't have a lot of activity going on all the time and one that is patient with her.. Even though she's almost 10 years old, she's in good shape and bounces around like a puppy. She's beginning to trust us so her sweet little personality is beginning to show.

We require that a home visit by a volunteer be done prior to adoption. The purpose of the home visit is to ensure that the information given during the adoption process is correct and that the home is the right match for the dog being adopted. The home visit also gives adopters a chance to ask questions about the adoption process.
The adoption fee for LiNa is $150, which helps to offset
the cost of her medical care.
