3/30/2010: Jesse is one very special Pei/Corgi. He came to us in 2006 from a shelter in Georgia and was placed in a great home for four years. The family fell on some really difficult times and had to return Jesse to us. We've had him back for about a month.
Jesse, being around 8 years old, has some health issues and for that reason, he requires a very special home. He has glaucoma and the three medications he has for this are rather pricey. He will need these medications daily until they stop working, at which time, he will need a procedure to 'kill' the eye so the pressures can't build up. This procedure is relatively inexpensive, but then he will be blind. His second issue is that he has significant food allergies so he requires a special kibble, which isn't cheap. We are in the process, though, of putting together a cooked diet that may work for him and actually would be healthier for him that the Z/D he's currently eating. Jesse also takes an allergy pill every day, but if we can get the food thing worked out, we might be able to stop that medication.
So, you see, Jesse is high maintenance, but we are willing to do whatever it takes to keep him healthy and happy. If you feel that you are the right home for Jesse, we would be willing to help some with his medication expenses.
Jesse is very laid back, gets along very well with other dogs and is very low maintenance in the exercise sense of the word. He hardly ever barks, he's housetrained, of course, on heartworm preventive and is current on vaccinations.
If you are up to the challenge, which will result in a ton of affection and love, maybe you can be Jesse's next family.
5/9/2010: Good news on the Jesse front. We have found that Jesse is not allergic to fish and green beans, so he is eating Mackerel and french style green beans with 1/2 cup Purina Selects Turkey and Barley mixed in. He loves it. We've been able to take him off the high powered allergy pill he was on and now he only takes Benadryl 2x a day.
He is also down to two glaucoma meds a day, so the cost has dropped significantly.
Won't you think about giving Jesse a forever home?

2/7/2010: Jesse had to have emergency surgery last Sunday morning to remove his left eye. The iris ruptured and it was very painful for him. He's doing great, though. He even barked for his supper the night of surgery. Good boy, Jess!
We require that a home visit by a volunteer be done prior to adoption. The purpose of the home visit is to ensure that the information given during the adoption process is correct and that the home is the right match for the dog being adopted. The home visit also gives adopters a chance to ask questions about the adoption process.
The adoption fee for Jesse is $150.
