Cooper

6/28/2010: This pitiful creature was turned in to an animal clinic by his owner. Poor thing has a raging yeast infection and also has heartworm disease. He needs entropion surgery and neutering. Whew! He has a long road ahead of him.

Cooper (named for the good samaritan who helped tremendously with his rescue) is probably a fawn brushcoat, but he doesn't have enough hair to tell that for sure right now. In spite of all his medical issues, he has a wonderful temperament. He loves other dogs and he especially loves people. When I sit in the floor with him, he gets in my lap! What a sweetheart. Cooper is house trained and crate trained.

Cooper will be two years old on July 8. Check back to see how he's progressing. It will be a while before he's ready for his new home.

6/30/2010: It's only been two days, but Cooper is feeling soooo much better. He's had a nice bath and is eating good food and taking his medication like a trooper. He still looks rough, of course, but he's much happier. He's been trying to play today which is such an improvement. This boy will be so very handsome when he's well. These pictures were taken on his first trip into the fenced yard without a leash. He didn't want to come back inside! He smelled every blade of grass, I think.

7/25/2010: Cooper is still trying to re-grown his hair, but he's not having much luck. We're testing him for a thyroid condition tomorrow. That may be part of the problem. We've also changed his diet to see if that will help with the itching. You gotta love this guy - he never meets a stranger - human or dog.

9/18/2010: Cooper has finally started to gain weight and has almost a full coat! Yea!! Once we figured out what he could eat without scratching himself to death, he started to thrive. His diet is french style green beans, canned jack mackerel, and Purina Selects Turkey/Barley kibble. He loves it even though it stinks to high heaven. We did find out that he has low thyroid, so he takes daily medication for that and it's really helping his coat to re-grow too. Here's a recent picture of the boy. You can see for yourself how much better he looks and he feels good, too. He and Little Bit play ALL the time.

10/4/2010: Cooper is being treated for heartworm disease and is doing very well. He feels good and he looks so much better. Once he checks negative for heartworm disease, he will be neutered and have his eyes fixed. Then he'll be ready for his new home! And boy what a catch he will be.

Looking good, Mr. Cooper Man

11/7/2010: Yesterday, we participated in Barkaroo in Murfreesboro TN. We set up our tent and took Cooper and Jade. Cooper was a hit! He was so good. He met every dog with ease and even participated in the Mr. Barkaroo contest with Gina. He didn't get the prize but he was a winner in our eyes.

Cooper is a great dog - I'd say he has the best temperament of any we've ever had. We are still working on his allergies, but his sweet personality surely makes up for that.

11/20/2010: Cooper is doing great! He is free of heartworms and has been neutered and has had his eyes fixed. He is such a great dog. He will make some family very, very happy.

You really don't think I'm going to put my feet in that stuff, do you????

Back to adopton pageWe require that a home visit by a volunteer be done prior to adoption. The purpose of the home visit is to ensure that the information given during the adoption process is correct and that the home is the right match for the dog being adopted. The home visit also gives adopters a chance to ask questions about the adoption process.

The adoption fee for Cooper is $250, which helps to offset the cost of his medical care.
