SAMSON

Samson appears to be about a year old.. He's a little on the thin side, so we are working on fattening him up. When he was picked up by a good samaritan as a stray, he had an injured leg. She took him to an emergency vet and they treated his leg; they then contacted us about him. We picked him up, took him to the rescue vet, had him neutered, shots, eyes done, leg re-sutured and heartworm tested. He is heartworm negative. He is ready to go to his forever home.

Every one that has met Samson loves him. He does well around other dogs.He will be a great addition to some lucky family.

5/7/07: This pretty boy is with his new family in Memphis. A.J. and Kyla love him and Lolli adores him. He's not too sure yet just what's going on and he has a little stressed out tummy, but I'm sure he'll settle down soon with all the love and attention he's getting.

Sammie's new mom writes:

It was a bit of a rough night for Samson.  He woke me up every couple of hours or so to go outside, he still has diarrhea.  He is eating though so I am not too worried.  I hand fed him some dry a little last night and again this morning in addition to what he is eating out of his bowl.  I am sure that he is still just upset about being in his new home.  Every once in a while he will wander around the house whining a little bit and I know he is missing you and your family!  He is never too far from any of us though and I think once he feels more comfortable he will be fine.

I got out some of Lolli's toys this morning and for half a second he thought about playing and then he remembered he was supposed to be upset.  Lolli of course went ahead and took over the playing for him!  She is still being good with him.  I keep an eye out though, I don't want her to get too annoying before he has a chance to get adjusted.  It is funny how dogs can sense things!  She will try every once in a while to get him to play but will leave him alone when he walks away from her.  It reminds me of watching a shy kid being approached by an extroverted kid.  I need to get him some of his own things without her scent on them.

Because of his bathroom issues, I gated him into the kitchen while I am at work so if he does have an accident today it will be easier to clean up.  He wasn't too happy about it and it about broke my heart!  I am hoping he doesn't figure out he is big enough to jump over the baby gate!  If he keeps up the good work though, I will feel comfortable letting him have run of the house when we are gone.  We left him alone for a little bit yesterday evening while we ran to the grocery store and he did great!  If we are in the office or our bedroom, he will hang out at the door keeping watch.

In the meantime, AJ and I are spending all of our time on the floor and letting him approach us on his own.  When he does we are giving him lots of hugs, kisses and a snack (dry food & chicken jerky, not too much on the jerky as to not make his tummy worse).  He did the hair thing again this morning.  It makes me laugh!  I will put my hair down towards the front and lean forward, he puts his muzzle in it and rubs against the side of my head.  He then will get down on his front paws and twist a little bit (think yoga) and let me scratch his belly.  I will have to see if I can get it on video!

We are very glad to have him home, it breaks my heart though wondering what he must be thinking.  I know it will take him a while to get used to everything.  I will give you a progress report as things start to change!

5/14/07: News from Sammie:

Okay so I have two good pieces of news to report.

#1  The vet visit went well.  She said both of my dogs are very well mannered (my dogs?) and healthy.  Lolli had put on 3 pounds in just the last week so that is good.  Samson got his heartworm pills so we are ready to give him one tomorrow.  He did really well and was very patient with the doctors and vet techs.  They brought a trainee in after the initial exams to have her look at both of the dogs and the poor puppies had to go through it all again!  They were good little guinea pigs though.  He is due back in Sept for his shots.  Let me know if I need to send you the record for our contract obligation.

#2.  Kaia (our 7 year old) met Sammie for the first time on Friday.  It went GREAT!  He likes her better than he likes us.  Immediately his tail was wagging, he was rubbing on her and rolling over so she could scratch his belly.  We would put her to bed at night and he would wander around the house whining.  He was a mess last night when she went home to her moms!

Already he has made such an impact on our house.  He is a good watch dog, always on patrol.  He is a good friend to Lolli and an excellent member of our family.

Thank you for choosing such a perfect match for us!  We couldn't be happier.  Kyla

Doesn't he look great? He's such a good boy.

Sammie and his sister, Lolli

1/22/08: So when Lolli and Sammi want to play but the other
isn't much into it, the playful one will always go and get a toy out of
the toy basket and start prancing around in front of the other.

Well last night, Sammi decided that he wanted to lay in Lolli's bed.
This of course was very upsetting to Lolli who tried to do everything
she could to get him out (get in there with him, sit on him and even try
to tap him on his head).  When it wasn't working, defeated Lolli went
and got her favorite toy from the basket and laid down next to the bed
to chew on it.

Well Sammi who obviously just wasn't about to let Lolli have ANY fun
last night decided now he wanted the toy.  Their playing match was
hilarious and lasted long enough for me to get a camera, take about 20
shots (none of them turned out well of course) and get AJ from the
office so he could enjoy.  We finally had to break it up because I was
afraid they were going to break something in the house.

Thought you might like to see some recent shots of your boy!

1/25/08: Speaking of Sammi, Kaia had show and tell today at school and was allowed to bring in a pet.  She chose SAMMI!  I wish I would have brought a camera, he did GREAT!  We weren't sure how he would react so we had Lolli in the car as back up in case he didn't respond well.  He was SURROUNDED by 16 little girls (8 years old) and he couldn't get enough.  He was smelling and licking, they were laughing, his tail was going a million miles a minute.   Made me think he would be a great therapy dog!
