MAGGY
(formerly Nutmeg)

Nutmeg is a vibrant, loving, mini red brush coat. She came to us from the Fulton County shelter in Atlanta, GA in September 04.

We could tell right away that she had endured a few hardships by the cuts and scars that covered her little frame from head to toe. We immediately went to work providing the medical attention she desperately deserved. She underwent successful heartworm treatment, entropion surgery, spaying and micro chipping. She came thru it all with a zest for life and only a slight vision impairment that was there before surgery.

You can truly tell Nutmeg has a new outlook on her life by the gleam in her new coat and jaunt in her steps.  She enjoys running in the yard, long walks on her leash, and play time with a loving human companion.

Nutmeg is housebroken and at 45lbs, she is just the right size for rides in the car; and spunky enough to romp with the kids in the back yard. She can be feisty with other dogs but with the right atmosphere can adapt to another family pet. Nutmeg has a lot of love to give. You can see it in her big brown eyes. She is ready for her forever home.

UPDATE 5/26/05: Isn't this great! Nutmeg has a brand new family. Thank you, Jim, Cathy, Chad and Charly for taking Maggy (her new name) into your life. She will be very happy, I'm sure, and I hope she makes you very happy. Charly, hang in there, she's just one bossy lady!

UPDATE 6/3/05: A note from Maggy's mom

We have been camping since Monday & just got back today.  Maggy is doing great.  She is more comfortable with us now & seemed to love camping.  We took her on the trails & she led the way!  She & Charly even started playing together yesterday.  Maggy wanted to play sooner, but Charly was the holdout! We have taken pictures & will send when we get them developed.

UPDATE 10/18/05 from Maggy's mom

Hope everything is well with you.  We are all ok & Maggy & Charly are really enjoying the cooler weather.  Maggy is settled in now & is doing great.  She likes being outdoors & spends most of her days on the deck.  She loves the yard & has become our number 1 watch dog.  Remember the side of her face that had all the hard scar tissue?  One day I was looking at her & noticed that she looked different.  The hardness was almost completely gone & she can move that side of her face now.  I'm not sure how or why, but the only thing I can figure is that we have been giving them pig ears to chew on & that all that extra chewing has softened up the scar tissue.  She is such a sweet girl & is wonderful with the grandkids.  She & Charly have become close & sometimes even lay touching each other.  She was so afraid of the stairs when she first came, but now she sleeps under the stairs during the day when she is not outside.  At night she sleeps on her pads beside Jimmy's side of the bed.  Jimmy has taught her to shake hands, to lay down & jump up.   She has been the best addition to our family.  We love her so much.  We have a new digital camera & will send pictures as soon as we figure out how to transfer pictures to computer! Talk to you later, Cathy

UPDATE 12/14/05

Maggy is doing great.  Even as cold as it has been, she still likes being outdoors.  We bring her inside & within a few minutes she wants back out.  She has become very protective of us & the house.  She is a good watch puppy & even barks at the tv when she hears another dog barking or a horn honking!  She has a good appetite & has had no health issues.  She loves to ride in the car & jumps in whenever we leave the car door open.  All the grandkids really love her, but she wisely stays 2 steps in front of them when they try to chase her.  Charly lets the kids sit on his back, but Maggy wants no part of that!

UPDATE 1/5/06

Maggy is doing so well in her home and now she has a new puppy to play with and be a mother to. His name is Spencer (formerly Chance). Maggy is very happy.

1/4/07: Isn't she beautiful?

5/11/07: Maggy is in the hospital battling renal failure. Please keep her in your prayers.

6/1/07: It is with a very heavy heart that I write - today little Maggy passed away. She was at home where she needed and wanted to be with Jim, Cathy and Chance. Now she's pain free from that awful kidney disease. We love you, Maggy, and we will miss you terribly.
