PETUNIA
formerly MADDIE

8/30/07: This sweet
little girl just wants someone to love her. Maddie was picked
up as a stray in Alabama. She looks like she's just had puppies
recently. Even though she hasn't been treated very well, she has
a wonderful temperament. She ignores other dogs and cats and she
loves people. She's just a sweetheart.
Maddie is a black
horsecoat female, approximately 3 years old. She's a tiny little
thing, only 35 lbs. She has heartworm disease and will begin treatment
on September 14, so she won't be ready for adoption for at least
8 weeks. She also needs to be spayed and have entropion surgery.
Maddie's coat doesn't
look too good, probably because of bad food. She's on a good diet
now and we expect her coat to improve quickly.
UPDATE 10/9/07:
Maddie is 3 1/2 weeks into her heartworm treatment and is doing
great. She is such a good little girl - doesn't bark, she's good
in the crate, she stays behind a pet gate if she needs to. She's
the perfect little girl.
Can you see Maddie
becoming part of your family?

11/10/07: Little
Maddie is in her new home in Kingston TN. Her new mom is Lynn
and she has three 4-legged playmates. We know Maddie is going
to be spoiled rotten, which is as it should be!
4/6/09: little
petunia is the sweetest dog, i absolutely adore her. she is so
smart and funny and affectionate, and that little hippo face just
gets to me. a really great dog. you know how dogs get all jealous
if another dog is being petted, well of course all mine do that
too but petunia actually shoves her whole body between me and
the other dog and chews on my hand when i am petting murray wally
or daphne instead of her. she cracks me up. Lynn
6/9/09:
hi cindy, well we finally made it back home last saturday, what
an adventure it turned out to be. by now the whole fiasco seems
hilarious and we can laugh about it all, but at that moment when
i finally realized that we were hideously lost in alabama and
would never be able to make it to decherd in time i was so disappointed
and very much NOT amused. but i got past it quickly, i mean what
can you do except hope we are all well enough to try again next
year. i
don't think i told you that in addition to getting lost twice
we thought we had locked the keys in the car when we got out in
chattanooga for lunch, sheila borrowed a broom from the restaurant
to put through what we though was only a partially cracked window
(since the AC had gone out in the car!) only to find that when
we got back to the car we had left one window about half way down
with a purse and digital camera on the seat., which thankfully
was still there. and a waiter saying that petunia was not allowed
on the terrace of the restaurant just as our food arrived, although
she was behaving absolutely perfectly (sitting quietly beside
my feet under the table) and other customers had mentioned seeing
dogs out there often. one lady overheard this and came by and
said "honey you just eat your lunch and ignore them, these
birds out here are pooping on everything, at least your dog isn't
doing that" we laughed and finished our lunch. for dinner
we found a panera that allowed dogs in the outside seating and
petunia had a turkey sandwich and cold water. i still can't get
over what a well behaved dog she is in public, so calm. she is
slightly shy of anyone but me, but will allow people to pet her
and she was warning up to joanne (my friend who came with me when
i adopted her) because she gave her part of her chicken at lunch.
i am a vegetarian so all my dogs love my carnivore friends!
anyway, we all enjoyed looking at the pictures of the picnic,
i especially enjoyed seeing the ones of buddha, she is such a
big cutie. i wish i could take her but at this point it would
be beyond crazy, still there are certain dogs who come along that
i think we feel a special connection with, and i think she is
one of those. something in her facial expressions resonates with
me.
i was so sorry to get your email earlier today about the loss
of chen, it is simply heartbreaking to read of these passings.
i guess we just have to try to enjoy the moments we have with
our dogs and not worry about what will eventually happen, but
i find this difficult to do.
take care cindy i know you must have worked hard to pull together
the picnic and i am so glad it was a success. Lynn
