This very sweet little girl came to us from a shelter in Georgia. Jasmine was picked up as a stray and was in pretty sad shape. She is heartworm positive and needs entropion surgery to fix her severly neglected eyes. We're sure she has some permanent damage and doesn't have good vision. But little Jazzy doesn't care. She is very playful and friendly with people and loves other dogs - both male and female.
We will begin Jasmine's heartworm treatment soon so she will not be available for adoption until mid-June.
Jazzy is about a year old. She's a black brushcoat with a wonderful personality. She's crate trained and house trained.
4/10/07: Update from Jazzy's foster mom . . .
Jasmine plays a game,
I think it is called Catch me if You Can. While I am busy in the
kitchen, she runs up to me, does a few Thumper jumps, then puts those
ears to the side and runs like hell into the living room. Then here
she comes again, over and over. When I act like I am going toward her,
she turns around, those ears go back, and she runs like hell...We do
this over and over. She is hilarious!
4/16/07: Not good news about Jazzy's
eyes. She is totally blind. Both corneas are ruptured. But I'm tellling
you, you would not know she's blind. She compensates so well. She already
navigates her way around our house and she's only been here since Friday.
She is very smart and very, very playful. She wears Molly out during
their playtimes.
I realize it's going to take a
special person to adopt Jazzy, but I know you're out there!!
7/22/07: We placed Jasmine in
a home last Saturday, but it didn't work out. The male pei in the home
didn't understand that when Jazzy barked in his face that she wanted
to play, so he and Jazzy had two fairly significant scuffles. So Jazzy
is back with us. But she's ready for a new home as soon as we find the
perfect one!
8/12/07: Today is a great day.
Little Jasmine is on her way to her new home in Ball Ground GA. She'll
have 3 playmates and a wonderful, understanding mom and dad. Thanks,
Regina and Gary, for wanting to give Jazzy the opportunity for a great
new life.

UPDATE 8/13/07: Hey Cindy,
So far everything has gone perfectly. Our youngest daughter came
over to meet the newest addition and it ended up being a very late night!
She is in love and so is Jasmine but Gary is still Jasmine's biggest
buddy.
Her meeting with the other dogs was uneventful, thank goodness.
We introduced them one at a time..a lot of sniffing, a few licks and
then they just stood back and watched her. I think that they can
sense that she is different. It's amazing but they move near her
very slowly, stop and let her find them. All 3 approach her the same
way. I've never seen them behave like that before and they have been
introduced to many other dogs.
Jasmine is incredible. I know you will be happy to here that she
has already mastered the deck steps. We showed her 3 times where
they were and on her fourth trip she trotted across the deck, stopped
when she was about a foot from the steps, put out her paw and tapped
the deck, inched forward, tapped, inched...until she found them!
She then used that same paw to find the edge of each step as she crawled
down them. As you can imagine "down" is slow but she practically
flies coming up.
Right now she is busy exploring the house. She moves slowly through
a room until she has imprinted the obstacles and once she knows where
they are, her pace picks up and she can move through that room with
confidence. So far she has learned the living room, kitchen, sun
room and of course the deck. As I write this she is busy checking
out my bedroom. She learned her way around the sun room last night
so Gary slept with her there so that she would be in a familiar room.
He took the couch and she selected the biggest, fluffiest dog bed (there
are 2 in the room) for herself.
So far Jasmine is making herself at home. She doesn't act nervous
or anxious when the other dogs are near so I think she doesn't feel
threatened by their presence.
3/26/08: Just wanted to let you know that Jasmine
is having seizures and it now appears that she has been having them
every since she came to live with us. I feel so bad that I didn't recognize
what was happening until she had one in front of me. They have been
occurring about once every 5-6 weeks at night while she is asleep and
the only residual evidence has been that she has peed her bed. We just
thought that she was sleeping so deeply that she didn't wake up to go
outside and relieve herself.
3/26/08: Saturday night I was up much later than
usual getting ready for Easter. At about 1AM , from a dead sleep she
bolted straight to her feet, every muscle in her body was tensed then
she fell to her side and started jerking and gnashing her teeth and
peed. It only lasted about a minute and she was completely recovered
within 20 minutes but it scared me nearly to death! Sunday morning she
was like a new dog all bouncy and bubbly and wanting to play and play
and play. I hadn't really noticed at the time but she had become a little
moody and very quiet a couple of days before the seizure and looking
back I can now see this same pattern with what I thought were just episodes
of "night peeing".
At this point, her Vet just wants me to start documenting her seizures
to ensure that they are following the same course and not getting worse.
She believes that anti-seizure medication is an unnecessary option for
Jazzy because of her history of FSF and the possible side effects of
all of the available medications include liver damage.
Jazzy had an appointment on the 24th to get her yearly vaccinations
but the Vet decided to delay them until next week to give her just a
bit longer between the seizure and her shots.
Anyway, if you hear reports of someones dog wetting their bed at night,
not just dribbles but emptying the bladder, have them look into the
possibility of seizures. Gina
12/16/09: Little Jazzy fought as long and as
hard as she could, but finally her little gody gave up. Jasmine was
such a trooper - blind, Shar Pei Fever, seizures. Why in the world should
a sweet, innocent little dog like her have to endure so much pain during
most of her short life? I guess God has a plan for her. Gina and her
family are devastated at her passing.
