JAMIE

7/18/07: This beautiful boy came to us from a shelter in east Tennessee. He was found as a stray on a farm and the shelter folks wondered if he was the result of a puppy mill. We named him Jamie after my husband and son (both are James).

Jamie is a miniature fawn brushcoat with a wonderful personality. He loves everybody and all the other dogs here.

Jamie has a deformed right front foot and his leg is just a little bit shorter than the other front leg, but it sure doesn't bother him. The foot has a pad so he's able to walk and run on it normally, but it doesn't have any toes and, therefore, no nails. We can only assume that this is a birth defect.

Jamie is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and on preventive. He will have entropion surgery on 7/26/07 then he'll be ready for his new home.

8/9/07: It's been a rough 5 days since Jamie went to his new home with Molly in Madison AL. He and Moose, their chocolate lab, aren't getting along. We're hoping that Jamie decides that he has it pretty good and that he should behave so he can stay there. Wayne and Lori are trying real hard to make it work and we're keeping our fingers crossed.

8/19/07:

Hi Cindy, Great news!   As of their dinnertime tonight, we have a single three dog pack!  I think Jamie got tired of watching through the window as Moose & Molly played.  Plus we have Molly to thank for teaching the previously unsocialized Moose how to play without becoming afraid or angry.

After lunch, with Molly napping outdoors, Wayne held Jamie and I held Moose (in the same room!) until Jamie quit snarling.  Over about three hours, we were able to let the guys introduce themselves.  Once they reached the stage of licking and then tugging on each other's ears, it was as if Jamie completely forgot that when they woke up this morning, he'd wanted to kill Moose.

We're still keeping close watch over Jamie getting too excited, but now he and Moose and Molly are all able to chase and play and pile up together.  The pileup is usually Moose on his back, with Molly flopped across Moose's belly, and Jamie and Moose playing “no, I've got your nose” swallowing up each other's muzzle.

Moose is surprisingly patient with Jamie playing the aggressor. It helps that Jamie's so lightweight he can flop crosswise across Moose's back without really getting Moose's attention when all three dogs are playing.  Jamie seems certain he's got Moose where he wants him; forget that Jamie's back feet are dragging the ground as Moose walks around looking for an opening in Molly's defenses.

Now that they're all snoring, we can foresee a night when we'll all be able to sleep peacefully in the same room.

In other news, the link you shared for pet news had a link to a chattering cat that Jamie absolutely loves.  He stands next to the desk with his nose on the speaker just wriggling out of his skin.

Take care!  I hope to send some photos this week… Lori

8/20/07: We are so grateful to Wayne and Lori for hanging in there with Jamie. Some people would have given up a long time ago. Thanks Wayne and Lori!

8/25/07:

Hi Cindy, thanks so much for sending the cap and T-shirt with your adorable logo!  My efforts to get Molly, Jamie, or Moose to pose wearing the cap have been futile, but they definitely enjoyed the package delivery.  After running to the door every time that cussed Windex commercial with the birds playing a doorbell prank airs, they finally heard a real doorbell and even caught a glimpse of the delivery guy.  Very satisfying!

Speaking of sound effects, Jamie's (actually having) eyesight since entropion surgery allows him to check behind the TV when he hears a doorbell, meow, bark, or whistle.  He also hits the brakes to check himself out each time he runs past a door with a full-length mirror.  The jury's out on whether he's assuring himself no other dog is there, or is simply admiring his handsome self.

Thanks for taking great care of Molly and Jamie, and take care, yourself!  Have a great weekend.

It's playtime!

I think Jamie has taken Molly's spot in the den.

9/20/07: Thank you so much for ordering the Kuranda bed for us.  I hoped to get a photo of Molly using it, but that hasn’t worked out so well yet for two reasons.  First, Molly, Jamie, and Moose are still sleeping on our bed at night!  Molly gets on the Kuranda if I ask, but when she waits at the side of the people bed to be lifted, I can’t say no to her sweet face and hopeful tail.

Second, I had to order a new battery for my camera -- the present one stays charged fewer than five minutes now.  I’ll definitely send you copies of any photos I get.  One with all three dogs on the people bed: “Before Kuranda”, and one with at least one dog on the dog bed, “After Kuranda”.

Each of the dogs have taken daytime naps on the new bed, and Jamie likes using it as a trampoline for jumping on the other guys.  I think Jamie might be the first to take ownership of the Kuranda bed at night, because he usually likes to jump down from our bed and stretch out in the early morning hours.

Since they’ve been napping in the office with me, I just moved the bed in here, and now they’re all asleep on the floor AROUND the bed.  I’d like a photo of that, and I’d caption it “Unclear on the Concept”.Lori

2/23/09: … silly boy! He’s hollowed out that huge patch of monkey grass to make an Easter basket grass -like bed for himself. Forget Kuranda + fleece, forget Tempurpedic + comforters, he’s got a nest of his very own.
