JADE
(formerly Jai Li)

1/7/08: These two beautiful girls have had a rough life so far. They came to us from a shelter in Kentucky. Apparently they were turned into the shelter by a breeder of many breeds. We're told there were 75 dogs all totaled. You might ask how these girls could be so sweet coming from a situation like that. Who knows, but they have wonderful temperaments. They just want to be loved.

The black girl is Jai Li (pronounced J - Lee). She is a brushcoat female. She's a tiny little thing - only 31 lbs. She needs entropion very badly and will have it done when she's spayed. When she got here 2 days ago, she had an injury to her left front elbow and is running a little fever because of that. She's on antibiotics and won't be spayed until she no longer has a fever.

The cream girl is Li Na (pronounced Lee - Na). She is even smaller than Jai Li - only 27.5 lbs - she is very thin. Li Na also needs entropion and spaying. She's scheduled for 1/10/08.

Both girls are free of heartworm disease and are on preventive. They are both good with other dogs.

Li Na takes her cues from Jai Li, who is obviously the leader. We would very much like to place these girls together because it is obvious they are very dependent on each other. We learned very quickly, though, that Jai Li is a little selfish with food and water, so we are feeding them separate and Li Na is putting on some much needed weight.

We are working on their house training. They will not use the bathroom in their sleeping area, but they don't know yet that it's not okay to use it other places in the house. They are very quick learners, so we're sure house training will come quickly.

This is why we would like to place these girls together if possible.

1/13/08: Both girls have been spayed and had their eyes fixed and are healing very nicely. Both are also doing really well with their house training. They love being outside so they can run and play in the fresh air and sunshine.

These girls will be ready for their new homes as soon as their stitches come out in about a week.

2/16/08: We haven't had any luck at all finding one home for both these girls, so we're going to have to split them up. We have a great application for Li Na and she met them today, so she will be going to her new home next weekend.

We'll keep working on finding just the right home for Jail Li.

2/20/08: We are tickled pink that little Jai Li might have a new home. Once Li Na leaves and we can test her with another dog, we'll know for sure. If it all works out, Jai Li will have a new brother named Ziggy and will be living in Wisconsin.

2/23/08: Li Na went to her new home today in Madison AL. It was love at first sight for her and Daisy, Wayne and Debbie's other Pei. This is a great home for Li Na.

3/1/08: Little Jai Li made a long trip to Fond du Lac WI today, but it was certainly worth the trip. She was really taken with Steve, but she likes Katie, too. We're hoping that she really likes Ziggy, too. Jai Li has a new name - it's Jade. Pretty, huh?

Thanks, Steve and Katie, for taking Jade into your home where she'll be loved and taken care of.

3/2/08: We heard from Steve today that Jade isn't being too nice to Ziggy, but only when they eat. Solution to that problem is to feed her in her crate until she decides that she doesn't have to fight for her food. We hope that will happen soon. As you can see from the picture below, they love each other when they're not eating. Now don't get me wrong, this IS NOT Ziggy's fault. It's definitely Jade's. She did the same thing with Li Na at first.

Aren't they cute together?

3/13/08: Hey Cindy,
Jade's doing alot better. She still eats in the kitchen with a baby gate up. But now I am feeding them of either side of it so she gets use to Ziggy's presence and maybe down the line we can take it down. It's funny because we put her in a crate while at work and we put Ziggy in the kitchen. But everyday she has figured out how to get out of the cage and then rescues Ziggy out of the kitchen. When we get home from work thay are sleeping on the couch together. It is really funny.
I have appointments for them to go to the vet tommorrow for check ups and to get the heartgaurd. So, hopefully everything goes great.
Thanks,
Katie
