This is Freddie! Freddie was captured after roaming the streets for about three weeks. He was so afraid of everyone that no one could catch him. Finally, the dog catcher was able to shoot him with the tranquilizer gun. Unfortunately, he had also been shot with another gun - probably a shotgun. Even though the wounds are infected, there is no permanent damage. He is on antibiotics and will be neutered when he's well. He is heartworm negative. Freddie has a very good temperament. Even after being so afraid, I was able to go into the dog pound pen and put a leash on him (after a couple treats). He gave no resistance at all. I think he was glad someone cared enough to give him a warm place to sleep and plenty to eat. The night I got him out of the pound the temperature was about 20 degrees and he only had a dog house with no bedding for protection.
UPDATE 1/25/04 Freddie was neutered and vaccinated on Thursday, 1/22. His wounds were also cleaned up again while he was sedated. There is no more infection, but the healing is still taking place.
His personality is really shining now. He's crate trained, and housebroken. Freddie needs a home where he can get lots of exercise because he has tremendous energy. He loves to play with other dogs and chase sticks. Freddie is a creme horsecoat and weighs 49 lbs. He knows the sit command and will do it almost automatically when he knows I have a treat in my hand, but he does need additional training, especially to learn not to jump on folks. He gets so excited with his boundless energy that he doesn't listen sometimes. Freddie needs a firm hand.

UPDATE 12/5/04:
Freddie went to his new home in Franklin NC today. He took to Stephanie and Seth almost immediately, so we know he will be happy with them. Freddie has waited almost a year for a forever home. He's finally found it! |
