Drew came to us as a stray from a shelter in Alabama. He had sarcoptic mange so badly that he had very little hair. We got him to the doctor the day he came, so he's on the mend. He will be beautiful when his hair grows back and he gains a few pounds.

Drew has a wonderful temperament. You just won't believe how sweet he is inspite of his treatment prior to getting here. He loves everybody and is so well behaved and he gets along with other dogs.

Drew is house trained and crate trained and he rarely ever barks. He loves to play. Drew is about a year old and weighs 38 lbs. Drew is on heartworm preventive, has had his vaccinations and is neutered.

2/9/07: Drew is doing very well and is ready for his new home. He's still a very sweet boy who loves to play and have fun. He's very well behaved and minds very well. He's going to make some family extremely glad they chose to adopt him.

2/18/07: Drew is on his way to his new home in Antioch TN with Keith, Sherry and Gus (their Schnauzer). Drew was very excited to meet Keith and Sherry, but was more excited to meet Gus! You see, he was only neutered 10 days ago and the male hormones are still raging apparently. I'm sure he and Gus will become fast friends just as soon as Drew's desires subside. Thanks, Keith and Sherry, for givng this wonderful little dog a second chance.

If you think you recognize these folks, it's because they adopted Dalton in 2005. Dalton passed several months ago and it was time for this household to have another pei in it - not to replace Dalton, but to provide the same love and care they did for Dalton.

2/22/07:Cindy,

Drew seems to be happy with us.  His tail rarely stops wagging. I have no idea where he gets all his energy.

He has inspected every inch of this house.  He tries to keep tabs on me and Keith at all times.  If I am downstairs and Keith is upstairs, Drew travels up and down the stairs to make sure he doesn't miss anything.  If Keith and I are in the same room, Drew is with us, typically shoving his head onto our laps or curled up in the floor at our feet.  He watched television with us this evening which was a little strange.  He sat and looked directly into the television for an extended period of time.  I thought dogs could only see three dimensional shapes.....so maybe he was attracted by the light or the sound.  ????

Drew doesn't seem as interested today by what is happening outside around the house.  He kept himself quite busy Monday keeping tabs on me, Keith, and EVERYTHING that moved around the house.  He does have a "big dog" bark.  I chased him inside yesteday a couple times for barking at the neighbor's repairman.

Oh, he does not like the word "No."  He knows what it means.  He just doesn't like to hear it.

I have been trying to teach him to sit,  yesterday evening and this evening.  He wants no part of sitting.  He locks his back legs and refuses.   I will keep working on it.  We may enroll in an obedience course if we can't figure out a more effective way to approach that.  I would like for him to know a few simple commands.  He comes when I call his name inside the house.  He does not always come inside from the back yard when I call him.  And he isn't really excited about the treats we have offered as a reward.  Maybe the trick is finding a treat he wants---I think you said that he loves milk bones?  He does not seem excited about the bones we buy Gus, Drew doesn't even eat them with peanut butter.  I tried our bacon treats and he doesn't scarf them down either.

He can't understand why he isn't allowed into the bonus room to check out that "bunny rabbit."  We are working on that.  I will only let him look through the baby gate into the room where the bunny is.  And I tell him no when he begins to jump, whine, and paw at the baby gate.  (We will be keeping that door shut in the near future.)

He uses the doggie door without any coaching.

He slept last night with Gus on the doggie bed on the floor at the foot of our bed.  Gus still isn't quite himself....  However, Drew's "urges" seem to be less frequent.  So, hopefully, they will become good friends, sooner than later.

Keith and I both worked today, leaving Drew and Gus alone and loose in the house.  I expected to come home to something chewed, pulled from the coffee table, etc....  We could not see any evidence that Drew (or Gus in protest of the new pup) bothered anything while we were at work.

He is a good boy.  He makes our hearts smile.  We are enjoying him very much.

Thank you.  You do great work.  I will try to send you a few pictures of him this weekend.

Sherry and Keith

6/9/07: Drew, the skinny and bald little boy, is now a very handsome boy with a beautiful coat. It's amazing what the good life will do for these little guys. Thanks, Sherry and Keith, for taking such good care of Mr. Drew. Look at little Gus sitting on Sherry's lap. Isn't he cute?
