CASEY

This beautiful flowered boy came to us from Hendersonville NC. He had been in a no-kill shelter for about 3 years, since he was a year old. Poor guy. We have renamed Prince to Casey, which means the warrior who never slept, so hopefully he won't associate his former life to his new life. Casey was very, very timid - almost unsocialized, but he's a quick learner. We got him on Saturday and by Sunday night he was following me around - something he didn't do before then. I would have to put a leash on him to bring him inside after he'd been out to do his business. Now he follows me in. Casey needs to go to a quite home where he can feel safe and comfortable. We think children would only be an additional stressor for him.
Casey is a neutered brushcoat. He weighs 57 lbs and has a huge head. He's a beautiful boy. Casey is fully vaccinated and on heartworm preventive. He is housetrained. He loves sleeping on his Kuranda bed! He is healing from bite wounds that he got when he was housed with other not so nice dogs at the shelter.

UPDATE 1/26/07: Casey is really coming around. He's friendly and wants to play. He will sit for a treat, which he absolutely loves. This weekend we will be testing him with other dogs and people he hasn't seen before to see how he does. Hopefully, now that he knows he's safe here, he will be okay with other people, too. Check back for an update!
10/31/07: We've made the decision that Casey is not a candidate for adoption. He is still too traumatized from his life before coming here and he just can't seem to get over it. For instance, when I tried to put Advantage on him a couple weeks ago, he growled and showed his teeth at me. I think he would have bitten me if I had forced the issue. So, Casey will live out his life here with us. He's happy, except when something needs to be done around his head/neck, and we've learned to deal with those times. |
