| This is Lucy Lou. Lucy was abandoned by her owner in Alabama and left to fend for herself for two weeks before a kind neighbor (Sharon) lured her to a food bowl. For a couple days, Lucy wouldn't eat until Sharon would back away because she was so afraid. Sharon contacted us and we went to pick her up. She must have known that we were there to help her because she came running up to us as soon as we got out of the car. Lucy was covered with ticks (no less than 500, I'd say) and her two collars were so tight I don't know how she was able to breathe. She is very thin, but is eating well and is starting to gain weight. All the ticks are gone, but because there were so many, she has patches of hair loss. This will return with time. Lucy is about a year old, very small (about 25 lbs) and is a sweetheart. She doesn't know much about a leash yet, but she's learning. She's on heartworm prevention and will be spayed soon. Lucy appears to be an alpha female, but she's fine with dogs that are not alpha. Lucy has never had any TLC. Are you the family to provide that for her? UPDATE 7/30/03: Lucy is doing very well. Her hair is growing back and she looks really funny right now, with some very short hair one color and some longer hair another color. She will have a beautiful coat, though, once it's all grown in. Lucy will be spayed in the next week or so and will be ready for adoption after that. She is just about the friendliest pei girl we've ever had in rescue. UPDATE 8/14/03: Lucy Lou was spayed today and tonight she's not feeling too well. But we have wonderful news! If Lucy can get along with a cat, she will be going to her new home very soon. We'll keep you posted!! UPDATE 8/24/03: Lucy Lou went to her new home today in Ft. Knox KY. She will be safe and loved with the Brysons and their little kitty. We are so thankful that Lucy will now get all the love and attention she deserves and needs so badly.
