Meet Buddy and Cissy. Buddy is a creme horsecoat male with a wonderful disposition. He loves everybody! Strange for a horsecoat, but true. He's in good health, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and neutered. Buddy is gentle and really likes to cuddle. He was turned in by his owner with his long time roommate, Cissy. Buddy loves his new sweater!!
Cissy is a beautiful red brushcoat female. Like Buddy, she is up to date on her vaccinations, spayed, heartworm negative and has had entropion surgery. She is very active and loves to play. She's also very loving and a hand licker.
These guys have spent their entire lives outside chained up; however, they both have wonderful temperaments despite that and have made the transition to being inside dogs very easily. They are housebroken and crate trained, although they don't use the crate anymore because they don't bother anything in the house. I am so proud of them!!
We are hopeful that we will be able to find a home that would adopt both of these guys because they are very close to each other and have lived together for at least the last year. We're sure they would make the adjustment separated, but they would be much happier together.
2/21/02 We have located a wonderful family for Buddy and Cissy in Dallas TX. They will be driving to Tennessee from Texas during their spring break in March to pick them up. We'll post pictures soon.
3/10/02 Buddy and Cissy left Tennessee today on their way to their new home in Dallas TX. Carolyn and Alex fell in love with them, I think, and I'm sure Buddy and Cissy will be very, very happy and safe in Texas. Ain't life grand!!!
1/6/04:
We learned yesterday that Buddy passed away before Christmas,
probably of cancer. Even though he's no longer
with his family and Cissy, we know he is pain free and
waiting for Cissy at Rainbow Bridge.
10/19/08: Hi Cindy,
I wanted to let you know that we had to let go of Niko
on Friday. Her kidneys and liver have not been great
for a couple of years now but she had been managing
reasonably well. She also had arthritis and we initially
thought that was why she was becoming more stiff and
having trouble walking. The weather is changing so we
assumed she was adjusting. About a week ago she started
acting really strange - sticking her head in and out
of the dog door repeatedly... and wandering off into
corners of our backyard that were not her normal places
and pacing in the middle of the night and just standing
and looking off into space until she would start to
wobble.
My husband took her to the vet several times last week
(I've been recovering from surgery all last week) and
the blood tests revealed that her kidneys had gotten
worse, x-rays showed her heart was enlarged, but mostly
her protein levels had spread to all of her cells -which
is why she was so stiff. She was not herself and was
not eating or responding to her name. Our vet, who has
gone to great lengths in the past to bring her back
to health from her fever episodes, said there was not
much that could be done to help her. He had also consulted
with an internist as well and gave her a shot of cortisone
as a last attempt, but to no avail. I was with her,
and she could barely lift her head but she knew me when
I came in the room and looked me right in the eyes one
last time. She seem to go very quickly and peacefully.
I think she was acting so strange because she did not
understand what was happening to her and she was trying
very hard to be normal. She was truly the sweetest dog
(so many people said her character was not like any
dog they had ever met) and she had become a true and
vital member of our family. We miss her immensely and
I'm not sure when I will stop crying when I think of
her. I feel so fortunate to have had her in our lives.
It is hard to believe my son Alex, was just a little
boy, 10 years old I think, when we got him and now he
is off to college as well as my stepson! And my daughter
Amelie who is nearly 4 now, has known Niko her whole
life. It was very sweet to hear her call her and feed
her.. "come here girl!"
I hope all is well in Tennessee and I will never forget
Niko and Milo (Buddy & Sissy) from Tennessee. Maybe
they are running together once again. And thank you
Cindy for giving us such a beautiful experience with
those two dogs which would have never been possible
had you not come to their rescue and put them on your
website for us to find in Texas. I never could have
imagined how much we would love them. Our hearts are
very sad right now.
